While it continues to support back-of-house access and building servicing, the lane is activated by operators such as York Lane Bar and Made in Italy Pizza.
Connecting directly to a Wynyard Station entry, York Lane supports steady commuter and worker use, demonstrating how service laneways can also accommodate everyday hospitality.
A direct entrance to Wynyard Station at one end is rare, bringing workers and commuters without any need to market it.
The eateries trade lunch into the evening, quieter otherwise. Its mixed shopfronts give it more character than a corporate lane.
Operators sit at fair intervals along 140 m, at 40–50% glass, adding life without taking over the lane's working role.
At 6.1 m it carries servicing and walking at once, which is about as wide as that dual role wants to be.
