Tank Stream Way
Tank Stream Way follows one of Sydney's earliest pathways, a narrow lane that traces the route of the original Tank Stream, the water source that helped shape the city's beginnings.
Today it blends heritage buildings with a modern edge — a café, a bar and the rear entry to the Republic Hotel — while connecting through to the adjoining lanes.
The lane's sandstone gives it a distinctive, hidden feel, and it works as a busy pedestrian shortcut between the surrounding CBD streets.
Connects Bridge and Bond at the eastern edge of the CBD. It feels more like a found space than a route, and is off the main commuter paths.
Busier than its size suggests — a genuine pedestrian 'ant track' between the surrounding lanes, with a café, a bar and the rear entry to the Republic Hotel keeping it in use.
The café and bar anchor most of the activity, with the Republic Hotel's rear entry adding to it. About 40–50% glass, with long stretches of old sandstone in between.
At 7.9 m it is wide for what is open now, with room for two or three times as much.
